The Effects of Skimming Skill, Students’ Perception of English Subject towards students’ Exposition Skill at Vocational School in Indramayu District

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and test the truth of the hypothesis regarding the Effect of Skimming Skills, Students' Attitudes in English Subjects on the Ability to Make Expositions. The research hypotheses tested include: 1) The effect of Skimming Skills on the ability to make expositions. 2) The Influence of Students' Attitudes in English Subjects on the Ability to Make Expositions. 3) Interactive Influencer of Skimming Skills and Students' Attitudes in English Subjects on the Ability to Make Expositions. The research was conducted by survey method. The population is State Vocational High School students in Indramayu Regency with a sample size of 97 students, with a sampling technique that is cluster sampling using the Taro Yamane formula. The research instrument used is the Questionnaire, each of the 3 variables that have been tested for validity. Data analysis used two-way/way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of hypothesis testing obtained the following conclusions: 1) there is a significant effect of skimming ability on students' exposition writing ability. It is proven by F count = 3.735 > 0.05 and Sig. 0,000 2) there is a significant effect of students' attitudes in English subjects on students' exposition writing skills as evidenced by F count = 0.738 > 0.05 and Sig. 0.832. 3) there is an interactive influence that is not significant skimming ability on students' attitudes in English subjects. This is evidenced by F count 0.475 > 0.05 and Sig. 0.990. The results of this study are useful for improving students' abilities in making expositions at the SMK level.
