Religious Moderation in the Life of the Eretan Wetan Village Community: A Study of Changes in Religious Practices and Understanding

Abstrak

Religious moderation has become an important approach in maintaining social and religious harmony within Indonesian society, which is characterized by diverse cultural traditions and religious interpretations. Eretan Wetan Village, located in Indramayu Regency, represents a coastal community with dynamic socio-religious characteristics due to the interaction between local traditions, religious education development, modernization, and technological transformation. This study aims to examine how religious practices and understandings among the people of Eretan Wetan have changed and how the values of religious moderation are manifested in their daily social life. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observations, interviews with religious leaders, community figures, and local residents, as well as documentation of socio-religious activities. The findings indicate that religious moderation in Eretan Wetan is reflected through a balanced religious attitude that combines religious commitment with appreciation for local cultural traditions. Changes in religious practices are evident through the growth of religious education activities, the use of digital media for religious communication, and shifts in the religious orientation of younger generations. Nevertheless, the community continues to maintain values of tolerance, mutual cooperation, and respect for differences.
