Revitalization of Street Spirituality Through Islamic Religious Education for Punk at Pondok Tasawuf Underground

Abstract

The concept of "street spirituality" is crucial in understanding how punk youth, despite being trapped in negative stereotypes, possess profound spiritual experiences and seek identity through transformative journeys.  Pondok Tasawuf Underground serves as a sanctuary, offering a space for them to learn and grow spiritually. Through adaptive Islamic religious education, this institution not only imparts Islamic teachings but also adopts an inclusive approach tailored to the social context of punk youth.  This qualitative research focuses on punk children engaged in religious studies at Pondok Tasawuf Underground, South Tangerang. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation, with data validity ensured through source triangulation, method triangulation, and researcher triangulation. Data analysis involves reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Prior to the establishment of Pondok Tasawuf Underground, many punk youth lived in social alienation, entrenched in a street lifestyle burdened by stigma. Post-establishment, transformative changes emerged, with participants embracing prayer, Quranic studies, and structured living in a nurturing environment.  The spiritual development of punk youth was facilitated by Ustaz Halim’s teachings on Islamic law (sharia) and social integration (hablum minallah wa hablum minannas).
